410 Chinese Well-known Trademarks were newly identified in the first half of 2012 with Foshan contributing 13 of them, according to a piece of news published at the portal website of the Trademark Division of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) on May 4.
As of now, Foshan has owned a total of 78 such marks, ranking the first among municipalities in Guangdong province.
Of the newly added 13 marks, Shunde district, Gaoming district and Sanshui district contribute three, three and one respectively while the remainder all belongs to Nanhai district, which tops all the other districts in the city with a total of 24 such marks.
In addition, those newly added trademarks are mainly distributed in industries including ceramics, aluminum, hardware manufacturing, clothing and logistics.
In China, both the SAIC and courts are capable of recognizing Chinese Well-known Trademarks. But in general, such trademarks identified by the former in administrative process are usually in the majority.
As the added value of the intangible asset of a business, well-known trademarks could help increase the chance in successful evaluations and bids, and could also defend brands from being rush registered. [Chinese version is available on citygf.com]
